Tips Tuesdays: Labels

Remember the iron-on tags that your mom used to put in your clothes before you left for camp?  Well now your can buy them with adorable elephants, owls or tiny birds on them thanks to Etsy.   Have you ever thought about putting labels on your finished garments?

Find them here.  Labels can be a cute ‘secret’ detail that adds personality and love to your handmade garments.   Some pattern companies are providing the home sewer with labels to sew into their garments.  I discovered these fun labels on a sewing blog.

By Hand London patterns aren’t the only Indie pattern company providing labels. The Canadian Indie pattern company Thread Theory adds a label for every menswear pattern they sell.

I read somewhere, probably on Marcy Tilton’s website; that adding a tag to a T-shirt or a pair of pants makes it look more finished, especially in knitwear.  I cut out a little strip of black ponte for a T-shirt I made and sewed it on the back of the collar and it is a nice detail. Hopefully I will remember to put a tag or label in my pants I am making in my Tailored Pants course at The Make Den.

Have you used labels or tags in your finished garments?  Let me know.
