Make YOUR fashion portfolio stand out from the crowd!  Learn the sewing secrets, finishing tips, tricks and garment presentation methods that will get your work noticed by fashion schools. Competition for acceptance is fierce. Don’t be disappointed – start your portfolio early and get ahead of the crowd!

Fashion schools like Ryerson, FIT and Parsons have very specific and extensive requirements.  Sometimes it just isn’t possible to finish all of the requirements during the school year.  Which is why we STRONGLY recommend that students who are interested in applying to Fashion Design or Communications start early!  From expertly photographed garments to perfectly finished seams, summer is the perfect time to learn and have fun.

Portfolio Prep Camp is geared to students applying for university / college fashion programs. Students can expect to complete 2-3 simple garments or 1 elaborate piece.  We run multiple 2 week sessions in the summer months, and you are welcome to attend as many as you like (we’re talking to you, “Little Miss Ambitious”).

Discover the easy way to illustrate the fashion figure, then bring your designs to life as you sew them in our bright, sunny studio. Proper mounting techniques and portfolio presentation are also covered. Industry guests enrich the classes by sharing their own portfolios with classes.

We provide patterns, sewing machines and access to our sergers, dress forms, cutting tables and cover seamer.  Fabrics and notions are the responsibility of students. Each student will finish the class with a book of their own fashion illustrations.

In addition, The Make Den organizes a group photo shoot in November (date TBA) for students who have completed 1 or more garments in Portfolio Prep Camp.

Each Portfolio Prep Camp runs for 2 weeks, 10am – 4pm, Monday to Friday.
Course fee is $750~ + HST.
Beginners are welcome.
